I was setting something else up, and this hit me upside the head. Anyone else see the resemblance between:
Did I just figure out Green Lantern's secret identity or what? The worst part is, both John McCain and Alan Scott are vulnerable to jabs with wooden spears...(that is a terrible joke, that thankfully, only Republican Green Lantern fans will get, Sally, Sea, hope you're voting for Obama!)McCain photo from the Wife's US Weekly, and Alex Ross did the redesign for the Kingdom Come Green Lantern. Why did Mark Waid and Ross go with Alan Scott instead of Hal, John, Guy, Kyle, Kilowog...? (I know why not Kyle, but...)
Gah!
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the resemblance. I also hold to it, that Joe Lieberman looks exactly like Ganthet.
*Choke!* *Sputter!* * Gasp!*
ReplyDeleteHA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA ...!
Oh, geez, that resemblance is so uncanny -- and so funny!
But, hey, why not? After all, Hal is supposed to look like either a young Paul Newman or a young Burt Lancaster, depending on the artist you talk to ...
Googum, one of these days I'm gonna learn to finish drinking my coffee BEFORE pulling up your blog pages. ;-)
As for why they used Alan instead of one of the other Lanterns in Kingdom Come (and keep in mind that this is merely hearsay) ... Rumor has it that originally Ross and Waid left GL and the Flash "anonymous" -- Ross designed them both reflect different incarnations of the characters: Flash is a composite of Jay, Barry, and Wally, and GL is a composite of Alan and Hal. This was to sidestep any potential "But THAT character is DEAD" issues DC might have. Later, Ross confirmed that the Kingdom Come Flash is Wally -- and GL IS in fact Alan, due to GL appearing as a father-figure to Jade.
'Least that's what I heard.
My second youth has just been ruined.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
:P
Snort
ReplyDeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on Alan Scott tho. Kindom Come was supposed to be about the overwelming iconic nature of certain heroes. And while Alan Scott is clearly the superior lantern (and Jay the superior flash) [sorry, I think golden age heroes are the shiz] Hal is deffinetly the more "iconic" as he really is the lantern that every one "knows" as much as any other. Much like Barry's flash.
Wowsers. Thanks for that... I think...
ReplyDeleteMy, My, the resemblance is utterly striking. Thank goodness McCain doesn't wield the power of the green flame. For that matter is Sarah Pallin, Jade?
ReplyDeleteFew bits you seem to need to know
ReplyDeleteFlash in KC was Wally West. He had tapped into the Speed Force more than anyone else and was almost lost in it
Alan was the GL because he was not part of the Green Lantern Corps. Remember, his ring was magical. Alan was pure willpower, not even human anymore. Hal had left the planet by this point.
And, if was an American, I would vote for Obama. Assuming, of course, that I got some things out of the way that I would rather do first. 1. Burn all my money. 2. Shoot myself in the foot. 3. Have a huge hole bored into my skull and 4. have myself castrated
Then I would be in the right mindset to vote for a socialist nutter!
