From CBR and elsewhere, I was sad to see
John Severin passed away at the age of 90.
I always thought of him as a Western artist, even though he did so much other stuff. In fact, he was still working, having recently done
Witchfinder: Lost and Gone Forever just last year; along with some
B.P.R.D. work. Awesome.
My condolences to Mr. Severin's family. He will be missed, but his work will still be enjoyed for years to come.
I became a fan of Cracked Magazine purely because of John Severin's artwork. I'd lay out issues on the bed and try to duplicate his style in order to improve my own. I also bought Marvel's Semper Fi series because of him. That man could do expressions like no one else. I'll miss him terribly. :(
ReplyDeleteI had to be reminded he did so much humor stuff, even though I knew he did What the--?! a couple times. To me, he was a Western guy; I even pictured Severin as looking like Sam Elliot.
ReplyDeleteThat is indeed sad, but at least he lead a long and full life. He also did an issue of James Robinson's Starman series, where he illustrated a Times Past story featuring an older Brian Savage, a.k.a. Kenowahtee.
