I'd love to finish the team, but now I want variant costumes.

All together now: "some time back," we saw the previous issue; we may finish this storyline someday! From 2011, Thunderbolts #164, "Golden Age Thunderbolts" Written by Jeff Parker, pencils by Kev Walker, inks by Terry Pallot.
Previously, the escapee Thunderbolts--Fixer, Moonstone, Mr. Hyde, Boomerang, Centurius, Satana, Man-Thing and Troll--found they had travelled back in time to Austria, 1943. Running across Namor and Captain America, Moonstone thinks quickly, and passes herself off as a new American superhero. Satana is game, changing her and Boomerang's outfits to suit the time; but a grumpy Mr. Hyde refuses. Still, Moonstone asks him to play along, guessing Hyde and Troll would seem to be from the past. Cap tries to test the newcomers with a baseball question, which is fielded by Centurius as "Doc Century." But there's little time for pleasantries, as the Human Torch has been captured by Baron Zemo! And the Red Skull. But even the name of Zemo holds more weight with the Thunderbolts: what if Heinrich Zemo dies before siring the team founder, Helmut? Centurius does nicely put to words a theory I've always liked: this could be an "accomodating cycle," where anything they might do is only going to cause the very future they came from. Of course, they could still get killed...
The Man-Thing had seemingly gone a bit dormant; so to feed it and also further their cover, Centurius has Hyde gather up the Nazis they had previously killed, for "plant food." But, they get a communication from Cap, attacking Zemo's castle, and faced with knockoff Torches! Somehow, the Thunderbolts have to make sure no one gets killed, on either side, to make sure they don't screw up the timeline. Well, no one important, anyway. Probably can kill about all the Nazis they need to.

  1. Those really would make some nice variant figures.
Still don't get why Mr.Hyde doesn't have a BAF figure yet. It's such a no-brainer. Same deal with still not having a Count Nefaria ML figure, or GA Human Torch, Attuma, Battlestar, so many to name.
