"Ghost Rider, $20.99"

Oh, fudd. I was working on a strip yesterday, and then scans didn't want to load for a DD post today, so we'll move this a day forward...even though I'm not ready.

The book has been getting good reviews, like here for instance, and I think I definitely need to pick up Ghost Rider #33 after flipping through a copy recently. Briefly, and from memory: a war for heaven is over, leaving bad angels in charge, Ghost Riders Johnny Blaze and Dan Ketch MIA, and the Caretaker dead. As his daughter mourns him, she remembers Ghost Riders of the past, and there are some doozies: G-Man Ghost Rider of the 1930's, 70's Ghost Truckers, Native American Ghost Riders, and more. They've really made Ghost Rider a legacy character, something not often seen from Marvel, but it could also almost work like a Ghost Rider Corps. Hey, it'd be an excuse to bring Vengeance and Blazing Skull out of mothballs. All they need is maybe a chest emblem and a catchy oath.

Shoot, wish I had a Vengeance figure now. I do have one of the little ripcord motorcycle ones, though...I haven't read a lot of his appearances, although I remember him being a mainstay of the later years of Marvel Comics Presents. I do have a full run of Ghost Rider 2099, and I still like that one. Might re-read it now, I know I have it out for some reason.

  1. The Ghost Rider Corps! Hey, there you go -- there's your "Black Lantern" Corps right there. All the dead guys in the DC Universe need to come back as Ghost Riders. Ghost Riders vs. Green Lanterns. Ghost Rider Batman! Ghost Rider Aquaman! Ghost Rider Sue Dibny! Man, that would be AWESOME. :-)

  2. I'm not much of a Ghost Rider fan. I get Nicholas Cage flashbacks. But I was wondering if the one in the strip is really Ghost Rider 2099 or if he's Brainiac. Because he does really look like Brainiac.

  3. Chris,
Oh, it's Brainiac all right. For some reason, every time I use him in a strip, he's trying to pass himself of as someone else.

    Sea,
Ah, if I had remedial printing skills, I suppose one could print up little Blackest Night decals to put on any figure...I'm working on a GL strip related to that right this second, but I wonder if reprolabels--they make replacement Transformer stickers--would do such a thing.
There are several figures I would need to pick up before trying this, but I wanted to do a bit with the Guardians, more Green Lanterns, a Ghost Riders Corps, and a befuddled Nova...

  4. It would be worth it just to see Batman's head on fire. ;-)

  5. A befuddled Nova, sounds delightful.

  6. Man, all I am missing from my complete 2099 collection are Ghost Rider #25 and the alternate cover Spider-Man #35. I am such a 2099 fanboy.

  7. Fool,
I'll keep a beady eye open: I was almost positive I had a spare copy...then I looked this afternoon and found #23. So close! Still might turn up though, and I think we're in the same area. I'll let you know!
And hey, which cover did you need? Was that the Venom 2099 one?

  8. Looks like the one I need is the Spider-Man cover. Got all the Venom covers for that series.

If I wanted to be really picky, I would go back through and see which of the #25s I have that are not foil. I know I have at least one non-foil in there. For some reason, the Spider-Man/Venom covers matter to me, but foil not so much.
