And cricket: no idea how it's played! I want to say there's a fifth Doctor episode with a lot of cricket, as well as a fun murder in fun the Prisoner episode "The Girl Who Was Death." That's all I've got, except a cricket bat seems like a suitable implement for mayhem.

"Meeting."
It's been too long since I've flipped through the Charlie Huston Moon Knight run, but I swear there's a bit in there somewhere with Khonshu getting starry-eyed talking about Frank Castle. Kind of like a football fan that likes the current quarterback OK, but then talks about Tom Brady like he wants to bring him home to mother. (Cowboys are up by 12 over him right this second!) The facets of Marc's personality give him a bit more utility than Frank: in recent years, I don't think we've seen Frank do any detective work like Stephen, and it's feels like forever since he's been undercover to get information like Jake. (I enjoyed the Garth Ennis PunisherMAX era, but his Frank is like the scariest serial killer in the world. How he goes anywhere is a mystery, he was terrifying.)
I believe the guy who played the 5th doctor was very much into cricket, so they just made his version of the Doctor a big fan of cricket as well.
ReplyDeleteI know it depends on who writes Frank, but it's not like Frank hasn't been portrayed as having used detective skills against his enemies. Maybe not exactly like Batman or Marc, but it's not like he doesn't scope out his enemies, study their strengths & weaknesses & sees how they tick before out & out murdering them. He didn't, he'd have been killed a long time ago.
I also check out & see if there' anymore issues of that MK anthology series. I've been loving what I've read so far of the series, with the 2nd issues being my personal favorite. That one's got a story about a diner Marc goes to where he can hold a meeting with all 4 personalities & catch up with how they're doing. This all happens during a robbery of said diner. Fun stuff.
Wouldn't surprise me if Frank got recruited by Khonshu- if he hasn't been at some point. He's been part of so many supernatural and extraterrestrial groups already, it's hard to keep track of what he hasn't been.
ReplyDelete@H: Khonshu does kinda sorta hint at that during Huston's MK run, remarking how Frank is a VERY loyal follower/disciple/avatar of Death & Khonshu's jealous of such devotion.
ReplyDeleteThey turned Frank into Cosmic Ghost Rider, so if he can be a Spirit of Vengeance, why not a Fist of Khonshu?
ReplyDeleteI agree that Frank has some investigative skills, even if most of them run to the "threaten to kill a guy until he tells you stuff," mode. Ennis' version was definitely a good planner and big on recon (to avoid innocent casualties and maximize killing the people he wanted dead), which has to involve some sort of information gathering.
Anyway, love the banter between the guys in this strip. Excellent work giving each of them different voices.
