I wonder if Venom fans threw a hissy fit after this one...

During the crossover Acts of Vengeance and immediately afterwards, a ton of classic Marvel villains were on the loose. Some of them went after their traditional foes, others tried this event's tactic by switching out to another opponent. And some were caught again right from the get-go. Like Venom, in today's issue! He makes the cover of Quasar #6, but not much else! From 1990, "Flies in a Cathedral" Written by Mark Gruenwald, pencils by Paul Ryan, inks by Danny Bulanadi.

Mocking Venom's "cobwebs," Quasar catches him in a quantum-powered webbing net of his own, and deposits him back in the Vault in less than two pages! Although Venom yells that he's already escaped from there twice; the "rookie Avenger" has bigger fish to fry, like trying to get back to his day job, capturing Klaw (which like Venom, doesn't take him long!) and fighting the Living Laser. Which leads to an encounter on the Blue Area of the Moon with the Watcher, and another fight with the Red Ghost! All before lunch.

I can't remember, but I suspect Venom had just appeared in Amazing Spider-Man and the writers or editorial didn't want to use him again right away, to keep him from getting over-exposed or played out. That kind of restraint seems positively quaint now...

Huh. And just think, and in a few years time, Quasar might've jobbed to Venom. At least the story's realistic, 'cause with as much power as Quasar has, there's no way realitically a fight between the two would last any longer than a single page.

Damn. I guess Venom got the short-end of the hero straw that day:(
