"Vague."

For some reason, whenever I glance at that Blade figure, the red markings on the chest armor seem like they should be a COBRA symbol. I lucked into him on sale last week, so here he is; following up on Kurt, who had been ducking him. Yeesh, we set that up like seven years back! 

And I don't think we've had this Man-Wolf in here yet! He's such a fun figure, of a look that has not really been in a ton of comics. Although, since he's part of Hasbro's Magic tie-in, the figure is more expensive because he comes with cards, which don't do much for you if you don't play. (Actually, I don't know enough to say if he comes with decently playable cards, either.) Man-Wolf is maybe a smidge cheaper now if you shop it around; but I'll get soaked again later for Doom 2099 and his cards.

It's probably still harassment, but do guys still wolf-whistle at girls? Or is it straight to just outright horribleness? I've seen too many Tex Avery cartoons, so wolf-whistles don't seem entirely innocent.

Oh, and I may have to add reference later, but there's a Space: 1999 episode where they very obviously had a foam machine for the weekend and worked it into the plot!

Every time I steal from Doctor Who for Death's Head, drink! The Second Doctor got forcibly regenerated by the Time Lords and was stuck on earth for the Third's early adventures. I want to say it's an Onion headline with the Doctor and the Brigadier: "Neither Boss nor Employee paid enough to deal with each other."

"The End" Week: Creatures on the Loose #37!

We saw the previous issue 12 years ago; and what would be the next issue five years ago: please don't take this to indicate I have any sort of plan. From 1975, Creatures on the Loose #37, "Moonbound" Written by David Kraft, pencils by George Perez, inks by Fred Kida.

John Jameson had been sent into space to check a space station that had lost contact with earth; but now the Man-Wolf was caught between the station's crew, and "space brigands." They dressed like barbarians, had weird weapons, and seemed to know more about the Man-Wolf's moonstone than John did. Meanwhile, back on earth, J.Jonah Jameson was searching for the missing Kristine Saunders, John's long-suffering fiancé. A "mysterious associate" of Kraven's (from CotL #32 or so) takes JJJ to the estate where the Man-Wolf had nearly killed him and Kristine; but is interrupted by CIA agent Simon Stroud. The associate was Arisen "Harrison Turk" Tyrk, former ruler of Otherworld, and better known as Lunatik. Not the Keith Giffen Lobo type; and I think this plotline wouldn't get wrapped up until 1978's Marvel Premiere #46, although JJJ would continue in the Spidey books.

The crew of the space station fight Man-Wolf, who that close to the moon was pretty much invulnerable; but probably couldn't navigate zero-g as well as John could, either. When the moon is blocked by the earth, he loses power and is thrown into a cell, where he reverts to John. John nearly talks the crewmen guarding him into letting him out; but they're knocked out by Garth, who convinces John to join him in a trip to "the Other Realm" since he had "the Godstone." They take off in a rocket, while the space station crew checks out an x-ray, showing the stone had symbiotically bonded with John, with tendrils spread throughout his body.

Dave Kraft mentions in a farewell text column, that sales for the book had been going up, but in the pre-direct sales days "once a title has been established for, say, 37 issues, it's next to impossible to get distributors to accept more than the usual assortment of copies." Editorially, they had considered giving Man-Wolf a new number one; but there were already a mess of new books launching, so no dice. Still, Kraft and Perez managed to get back for the Marvel Premiere two-parter. Huh, I promised to get to the conclusion of that one sometime, and still haven't! Again, no plan. Read more!

"Ditch."

Why is Jack Russell wearing a lab coat...? Because he landed the coveted role of Dr. Canus, in a Kamandi strip that I apparently never got around to doing. Werewolf by Night, like the rest of his brethren from the Marvel Legends Monsters box set, has not received a new figure, putting him on the increasingly short-list of Toy Biz figures that have not been updated. (I did see some Universal-style monsters figures from Jada Toys in my search, though!) Jack is probably the third-best figure in his set: better than the Dracula, but not holding up as well as Frankenstein and the Zombie. The hips and shoulders are outdated, the neck doesn't have any range, and he falls victim to scale creep, since he's now shorter than Wolfsbane! 

We're not going to see whatever turned Cap into Capwolf--if we go down one more level of flashback, we're in Priest territory--but since Morbius was involved, it might've been the werewolf coup d'etat Kang mentioned last year! It was probably like Captain America #344, except werewolves instead of snakes.

The magically "radioactive" corpse may or may not be a thing in real Marvel continuity; but old Dr. Strange stories seemed pretty steadfast in the belief that magic was not for everybody, and you could get jacked up messing with things you should tamper with. I want to say there's a throwaway line in Marvel Comics Presents (possibly MCP #19, "Nightmare in Suburbia.") where radon poisonings were revealed to be less prevalent than was known; many of those deaths were actually amateur magicians summoning a demon and then having a heart attack on the spot.  

I've never been, so I thought Lake Minnetonka was going to be a small, isolated secret; but it's like the most popular lake in Minnesota! I'm more familiar with Dave Chappelle referencing it as Prince, since I didn't see Purple Rain until maybe last year. Chappelle has been kind of a jerk lately: it's not easy to apologize or admit you're wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should double or triple down.  

What does any of this have to do with Moon Knight and Quasar? Oh, he's getting to it...
