I don't think Jonah Hex sews up his uniform, but he would've had to after this issue. And I know his new look was a few issues (and hundreds of years!) away...From 1985, Jonah Hex #90, "Starlight, Star Bright...First Star I See Tonight!" Written by Michael Fleisher, art and colors by Gray Morrow.
This was building up to the last issue of this series, which we saw maybe five years back; and it's described as a "pre-Crisis crossover." The Monitor doesn't appear, but a light nearly zaps Hex; who shrugs it off. He's still on the trail of his "friend" Emmy, who shot him two issues prior, but not making a lot of headway, as he gets caught in an avalanche, then soaked in a storm, then attacked by a mountain lion. All of which Hex treats as more annoying than anything.
Not unlike that last issue, Emmy's subplot gets over five pages, as she parts company with the gang she'd been riding with: one of whom, Brett, would be after her the rest of the series. This issue's villain, Silver Ames, would get ten pages; a good eight before she got to Hex. After taking up the gun to avenge her father, the embittered Ames was on a quest to prove herself the fabled fastest gun in the country. While she had apparently won some gunfights, she had gunned others down for not taking her seriously, like this sheriff that she shoots in the back. When she calls out Hex, he's not overly impressed, and offers her a few tips before outdrawing her, easily. Hex walks off without giving it a second thought, like that happened to him all the time. Yeah, probably.

It did. In, like, half of the issues. People keep thinking Hex can't be as fast as they say, and he keeps proving them wrong. Yeah, I'm a big Jonah Hex fan, if you couldn't tell.
Oh lordy, I do love me some Jonah Hex.
Not the movie though, that was dreadful.
