We've seen a few panels here and there of actual Darkhawk comics, and I have an actual plotline for him that's been percolating in my skull for some time and I hope to get to someday. He mentions the "Fraternity of Raptors," which I don't have a huge amount of interest in, but the family drama (as seen in Darkhawk #30) has some appeal. One of Chris's little brothers seems super big-hearted, while his other one, in another issue, had a serial killer mentor/replacement father figure! He also seemed like a jerk willing to throw Chris under the bus for all the family's assorted problems. And Chris's mom was a smokeshow! She doesn't look old enough to have a college-age son.
The other reason Darkhawk is getting written out for a bit, is that I don't think I moved his figure for several strips! I'm glad he got made at all, sure, but he wasn't a figure they went all-out on. No swappable hands or wings.
In more cheerful news, the Crystal Method's "Tweekend" still holds up!

Yeah Hasbro really did do the bare minimum with that Darkhawk figure, but then to be fair, other than a possible alternate head & maybe alt hands & wings, they pretty much put out what you’d expect. All that other stuff would probably entail a more costly figure.
I personally never bought a lot of Darkhawk comics myself, except initially in the beginning, then dropped off after a year or two, probably around the time he was beefing with the then incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, around the teens.
There is plenty of story potential with the fraternity of raptors overall, but that would require a competent writer to really utilize that potential. It’s interesting when you really think about it, how his power set is that of the cosmic side of Marvel but yet he’s traditionally been portrayed as a street-level character. You’d expect him to be more wrapped up in space more than he is. I wonder why. Also, wasn’t he kinda killed off & replaced with a new guy?
See, when I think 'cosmic,' I think like Korvac or the Silver Surfer. Darkhawk's on the street side of that: a magic bird-themed robot originally built for remote control crimes? Also, I think writers sometimes think, "Oh, I remember him from the 90's, let's use Darkhawk here," while in continuity, the last time we saw him he was trapped in the Negative Zone or training to be a Sleepwalker or some other damn thing.
I wanna say there was maybe going to be a new Darkhawk; possibly in an attempt to make the character other than another plain white teen like Peter Parker or Richard Rider or Robbie Baldwin. I wouldn't want to jettison the family drama, but I don't want to put that on some other family, either.
Hmm, I’d almost forgotten Darkhawk was still there, he’s done so little. Seems like a pretty big send off, considering he’s just going to space and (like I said) he hasn’t done much. Still, he’s a good kid, and I’m pretty sure he’s not the first and/or only Darkhawk so who knows what will happen.
Yeah, there was a new Darkhawk after some one-shot that told stories from three different periods in Chris' life, including when he's the last one standing at the end of the universe or something, and sends the amulet back in time to avert a terrible future. Should have asked the X-Men first, that shit never works.
I never liked the Fraternity of Raptors stuff. The idea of the Darkhawk armor being some piece of interstellar crimelord tech that tumbled to Earth always seemed more random and fun and made the universe seem like the weird place it oughta be. With how many crimelords there are just on Earth, how many must there be in the Skrull Empire, or the Kree or whatever? And how many mad scientist types to make crazy shit for them?
That said, I hope Darkhawk has a fun time in space. At least he's not traveling with idiot man-child Star-Lord.
I love how we're all in agreement about not caring for the Chris Pratt version of Starlord, at least here in the Gooverse. Personally, while I do enjoy the Pratt MCU version, and I get that the more serious version that he originally was might not have been as much of a hit with fans overall like the man-child version has been, I too MUCH prefer the pre-Bendis incarnation of Starlord.
