I don't want to say Marc was making some solid points about Matt's 90's costume, but I can't say he wasn't either. It was the 90's, so just about everyone worth a shit was getting made over to various degrees, but that armor, as much as it's pure 90's probably wasn't that bad. I know it really depended on who drew it to make it look good, so that was usually a problem because not everyone drew it or wanted to draw it, like Scott McDaniel. Practicality-wise, I think the DD Netflix show presented a pretty convincing case why Matt rocking body armor would be a good thing for him overall, so there's that. So maybe in the comics they can use that look instead. I know I usually prefer the comics' look over the tv show or movies look, but in this particular case, his body armored-look makes sense.
As for Alexei, I know there probably weren't a lot of Red Guardian fans out there as it was, but introducing him as old, worn out him, versus a younger guy who could still go, probably wasn't the best option overall. Sure it fit the particular narrative for the movie, but in the long-run, you may have just sacrificed potential for pathos. And since the whole BW franchise is in limbo right now with that lawsuit, we not get a chance to make a better 2nd impression anytime soon.
I generally agree with that. Don't get that comment about being dashing and swashbuckling though- does Alexei think Matt's some sort of pirate? I'd hardly consider the regular outfit either of those, maybe acrobatic and mysterious at a stretch.
Hey H! I swear they used to refer to DD as "swashbuckling" back in the pre-Frank Miller days. But back then, I don't think the term was as exclusively for pirates.
And I'm used to Red Guardian as a bad guy--I'm thinking around Cap #352 or so, where the "Supreme Soviets" kill off the Soviet Super-Soldiers, or think they do. But I also think of him as replaceable, either when he gets killed, or disillusioned, or learns too much...
I can see that. He does swing around on a rope a lot, and maybe they meant it in an Errol Flynn sort of way. Too bad Matt doesn't have a Stark 'stache, then he'd really look the part.

Oh, and it was H who left the comment above. Forgot to go off anon.
